Children and teenagers in Redbourn have a new place to socialise since a new youth cafe was opened in Redbourn.

Youngsters will be able to meet friends, listen to music, play sports and take part in other activities in the new site in Redbourn Recreation Centre in Dunstable Road.

The cafe, which was officially opened on Friday, is funded by the district council.

St Albans’ mayor, Annie Brewster, was one of the guests to attend the opening.

She said: "This is a safe place for young people aged 13 to 17 years old to hang out and have fun.

"They can meet up, play games, listen to music and make healthy smoothies in a very stylish venue."

The idea of a smoothie bar was suggested by members of the Redbourn Youth Council.

Councillor Julian Daly, chair of the St Albans and District Strategic Partnership and leader of the district council, said: "The partnership identified a lack of facilities for young people in the Redbourn area.

"This youth café helps fill that gap by providing a space for them to come together and socialise with one another.

"I want to thank local councillors for working with the Partnership to help develop this project."

The cafe will be open between 7.30pm and 10pm on Friday nights.
