Teenagers are being offered the chance to learn new skills while helping out in their local community.

The St Albans and Harpenden Police Cadets are on the lookout for new members who are seeking a new challenge.

The group, which is run by local police officers, is open to people aged between 14 and 18.

PC Steve Alison said: "The St Albans and Harpenden Volunteer Police Cadets has become an exciting and well-respected organisation for young people who want to try new things and find out about life in the force.

"You don’t need to be super-fit and super-daring, you just need to be keen to learn and make new friends. We would love to hear from you.

"The cadets recently took part in the Harpenden Carnival and introduced their new mascot Harry the Heart.

"They also get involved in summer camps, community events, fitness activities, take part in parades, volunteer in the local community and learn about police procedures and the law.

"Specialist departments such as the tri-force Armed Policing Unit and Dog Unit for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire give regular talks to the group."
