People in St Albans puckered up this weekend to help break a world record.

The St Albans branch of cosmetics company Lush, which is based in The Maltings, took part in an international attempt to collect the most lipstick kiss prints in one day on Saturday.

Staff put on official t-shirts for people to kiss for the challenge, which ran between 11am until 5pm.

Shop manager Tesni Edwards said: "It was absolutely phenomenal.

"It was great fun.

"The team were out on the street asking everyone to come in."

Although staff soon realised that their 600 kiss target was a little ambitious, they were still happy with their final result.

They managed to collect 110 kisses from men and women, old and young.

However the team are still confident that their effort, along with the efforts of staff at other stores across the world, will be enough to break the record.

Ms Edwards said: "We’re really confident.

"We had lots of little ones and lots of guys.

"A couple of them even went for the bright orange glittery lipsticks."

The number to beat is 22,174, which is the current record held by a Bulgarian company.

Lush signed up for the challenge in a bid to raise awareness of products that are not tested on animals.

Ms Edwards said: "A lot of people were surprised something that good can be non-animal tested.

"We were really pleased to be part of something that is global and that really got the message out there in a really fun way.

"It was really lovely to see so much support in the local area."

Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records now have the job of counting the kisses collected across the world and the result is expected later this month.
