Best-selling novelist Robert Goddard was in Harpenden on Friday (July 12) to officially open the new library and youth connexions service.
The facility has opened in the former Argos store in the High Street.
Mr Goddard, whose books include the award-winning Long Time Coming and The Ways of the World, unveiled a plaque to celebrate the new town centre development.
Frances Button, Hertfordshire County Council’s cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: "This development is great news for local people."
