Weeks of anxious waiting finally came to an end this morning when teenagers picked up their A Level results.
The Review visited St Albans Girls’ School in Sandridgebury Lane for the tears and cheers when the girls nervously opened their envelopes.
Margeret Chapman, who has been headteacher at the school for three years, said they were the best results ever.
Mrs Chapman said: "We are absolutely delighted with our results. I am really excited and the results are fantastic - our best yet.
"It is wonderful because the students have worked so hard. This gives them a good start to their future and that is what is so exciting for young people.
"It shows if you have aspirations and goals and you work hard you can achieve your potential. This brings fantastic opportunities for their future."
Huddled in a corner, best friends Mariam Khan and Farah Ahmed (pictured) stood together to find out their fate. Both 18, the girls cheered when they found out they would both be going to Kings College London to study bio chemistry.
Grinning from ear to ear Farah achieved A in biology and B in chemistry and maths.
She said: "I had to attend extra tuition before my exams so all the hard work has paid off because I have got in to Kings.
"Me and Mariam will now spend our first year together. I am so pleased."
Danielle Cheang, 18 of Marshalwick, had been up since 6am this morning refreshing her results page online.
The wait was finally over and most definitely worth it when she found out she had received 1 A* in maths and A’s in chemistry and further maths.
She said: "I was really nervous. I have been trying all morning to find out my results.
"I have been working quite hard and doing lots of revision. I am really pleased and I am sure my family will be very proud of me."
Danielle will now fly the nest when she attends the University of York to study chemistry.

Over the moon with her shock results Annabelle Thompson-Ball was not expecting to achieve 3 B grades in media, ICT and food after being predicted C grades.
Annabelle said: "I was not expecting 3 B’s at all so I can’t believe it.
"I revised more than normal and this has just come as a surprise."
The 18-year-old is now planning to complete an event management internship.
