St Albans commuters questioned by Green Party volunteers over cycle-friendly First Capital Connect trains
Volunteers from the Green Party carried out a survey of cyclists using St Albans Station yesterday morning, to find out if there was any demand for extra bike space on First Capital Connect (FCC) trains.
More than 40 per cent said they would benefit from having their bike with them on their journey to work, but others said they would have difficulty managing their bike at the other end of their journey and that they have no secure place to store it at work.
Results of the survey will be presented to FCC managers, who have promised to look at improving cycle facilities on their trains.
Green Party spokeswoman Jill Mills, said: "Worryingly, many cyclists said they were too scared to cycle in London. Clearly, there is a way to go before we can all have a green journey to work."
