Plans for abandoned site in St Albans City Centre to become temporary accommodation
An abandoned site in St Albans City Centre is set to become temporary accommodation.
At a St Albans District Council cabinet meeting last night, councillors discussed plans to knock down property in Hart Road and redevelop into two two-bedroom flats that can be used as temporary accommodation.
The property is thought to be valued at £425,000 however instead of selling the land off for 100 per cent of the sale price, the council say because of a pressure to provide temporary accommodation, transferring the property to Hightown Praetorian and Churches Housing Association is "preferable".
Labour councillor Roma Mills spoke at the meeting and said she disagreed with the decision to pay a housing trust to provide housing rather than just selling off the land.
