St Albans man to go head-to-head in University of Hertfordshire’s business competition
A St Albans graduate is one step closer to winning a share of £20,000 after reaching the final of a Dragons' Den style business competiton.
Having beaten off competition from over 100 entrants, Peter Kelleher, 49 will pitch his business idea on Wednesday, September 25 to a panel of judges at ‘flare’, the University of Hertfordshire’s annual business start-up competition.
Mr Kelleher will go head-to-head against 12 other finalists after impressing judges in the first two rounds with his business idea ‘smarterthinking’, a bespoke advice service for ex-police officers.
On reaching the final, he said: "Being a finalist feels fantastic. Starting out on your own is a daunting task with lots of things to consider but I’ve received invaluable support along the way from the University.
"Flare, and the University’s business start-up programme have both been really helpful in guiding me through the different components of starting a business."
Over 650 people have entered the competition since its launch eight years ago. In that time, over £100,000 has been awarded to 20 finalists.
Last year’s winner, Hertfordshire graduate and fellow St Albans resident Lucy Clark, received £10,000 to help expand her already growing business, Heaven is a Cupcake.
