City Neighbourhoods Committee to control Clarence Park Recreation Ground Trust
The responsibility of Clarence Park Recreation Ground Trust will now be in the hands of a neighbourhood committee.
Last night St Albans District Council’s Cabinet agreed Clarence Park Recreation Ground Trust would be the responsibility of the City Neighbourhoods Committee to ensure decisions are made locally by one body.
The committee was set up earlier this year with powers to oversee policy and budget decisions. This includes the management and budgetary responsibility for the whole of Clarence Park.
However, the council’s cabinet will retain the role of corporate trustee for the trust which covers the recreation ground part of the park to the north. The remainder of the park to the south is used as a public park.
Cabinet also invited the City Neighbourhoods Committee to consider the proposal and to report back so a decision can be made at cabinet’s next meeting in October.
Councillor Michael Green, chair of the City Neighbourhoods Committee, said the committee will meet on Wednesday, September 25 to consider the proposal.
The practical day-to-day management of the park, including the recreation ground, is carried out by council officers working in partnership with its contractors, who follow the Clarence Park Management Plan.
