Harpenden schoolgirl, Isla Trainor, swaps birthday presents for charity donations to Barnardo’s
A six-year-old girl from Harpenden has gone without presents this year in support of a charity, asking for donations via her Virgin Money Giving page instead of gifts.
Isla Trainor was inspired by recent fundraising for Barnardo’s which was carried out at her school.
Her Dad Sean said: "When we asked her what she wanted for her birthday, Isla said she didn't want any toys and that we should give the money to Barnardo’s instead, saying, ‘they need money more than I need more toys’.
"We thought it would be good to set up a fundraising page so that parents of her friends could make a donation rather than buy a present. From a parent’s perspective we thought this would be easier than having to think about what to buy as well.
"So, a win-win and a great way to raise cash for a great charity. We are really proud parents."
Isla, who turned six on Friday (September 20), hopes to raise at least £100.
