St Albans woman's vintage tiara sells for more than £3,000
A small box brought in by an unassuming St Albans woman at a free valuation day has turned out to be a vintage diamond tiara-sold at £3,400.
The woman, who does not wish to be named, had owned the tiara for many years, which was estimated at the value of between £1,500 and £2,000 at the auction house hosted by JP Humbert Auctioneers Limited.
However it later sold at the price of £3,400.
Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert, said: "In these difficult economic times I would urge people to look out for high value items to sell as the market has never been more hungry for gold, silver, jewellery, diamonds, watches.
"When I rang the lady after the sale to inform her of the sale price she was totally speechless."
The Auctioneers offered a special commission rate on the valuation day in September to raise money for Rennie Grove Hospice.
