Gale force winds are causing havoc on the rails and roads across St Albans and Harpenden this morning as multiple trees are blown over.

The Abbey Flyer looks set to be suspended all day due to overhead wire damage. Commuters who have abandoned their journey have been told they can return their unused tickets to the issuer for a full refund.

Network Rail has warned First Capital Connect services will remain closed until 12 noon at the earliest. A fallen tree has been pictured on the line just north of St Albans.

Firefighters were called to the West Coast Main Line near Park Street, St Albans, after a tree came down on the power lines at 7am.

Fallen trees are also blocking: St Anne’s Road, London Colney, a barn in Kingsbourne Green, Harpenden Avenue Road, St Albans, High Firs Crescent, Harpenden Harlech Road, St Albans, Telford Bridge in London Colney. A tree has also fallen onto an electricity substation in Tennyson Road.
