Harpenden Memorial Hospital plans 'making excellent progress'
Residents gathered at a meeting on Thursday to hear about the announced plans to redevelop Harpenden Memorial Hospital.
David Law, chief executive of the Herts Community NHS Trust, assisted by project manager Mark Carman, presented the proposal for Harpenden’s new Health and Wellbeing Campus.
Plans for the Harpenden campus will incorporate a range of facilities including some residential houses, to deliver "integrated health and social care."
The meeting, which was full to capacity, was organised by the Harpenden Society and the Red House Forum.
There was a loud outcry from residents in 2006 when the Red House community hospital’s residential wing was closed.
Since then The Harpenden Society’s health and social welfare working group has been actively involved in deciding the future of the Red House.
Society chairman Chris Marsden, said: "We are overwhelmed by the delight and passion shown by everyone."
"It was so good to see so many people enthusiastically supporting the scheme. We are making excellent progress."
It is thought building works for the campus will begin in 2016.
