A 22-year-old man was arrested after a bottle of wine was stolen from a St Albans supermarket on Monday.
Police were called to Morrisons, in Hatfield Road, at around 9.20pm by a member of staff.
An eyewitness, Stephen Rice, said another shopper saw Michael Ellis leave the store without paying and alerted the shop’s staff.
Mr Ellis, of Alban Avenue, has been charged on suspicion of shoplifting and has been released on bail and will be seen at St Albans Magistrates Court on December 13.
