Two Aldwickbury School boys decided to take action when one of their fellow students hadn’t heard about the devastating effect of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Determined to make sure all the boys at the school in Wheathamstead Road, Harpenden, were aware of the situation William Berrecloth and Angus Clifford asked if they could speak about it during a school assembly. From here they organised a non uniform "mufti" day, where students were encouraged to wear the colours of the Philippine flag, and a sponsored race.

Through the generosity of friends and family they raised £10,250.83. The money has gone to Shelter Box who has supplied emergency boxes already to the people of the Philippines.

When asked about the money they raised the boys said: "We are really pleased, we didn’t expect to raise so much money. Thank you to the teachers and boys who joined in with the day."

Headmaster, Vernon Hales, said: "What an amazing achievement. We are very proud of the efforts of not only William and Angus but of the way the whole school community has come together to help the people of the Philippines."
