A 1960s psychedelic band from St Albans has been announced as contenders for inclusion to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Zombies, who formed in 1962, gained their initial reputation playing the Old Verulamians Rugby Club.

After winning a beat-group competition sponsored by the London Evening News, they signed to Decca and recorded their first hit, "She's Not There".

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was created in 1983 to recognise the contributions of those who have had a significant impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of rock and roll.
