An additional taxi rank is now being provided in St Albans City Centre for people to use on weekend nights.
Taxis are now available between 1am and 4am on Saturday and Sunday in St Peter’s Street on the opposite side of the road to the existing rank, as provided by St Albans District Council.
Councillor Beric Read, portfolio holder for community engagement and localism at the council, said: "There is a thriving night-time economy in St Albans, especially in the run up to Christmas. We are therefore providing a new part-time taxi rank that will save people needing to cross the busy road to get a taxi.
"The additional space is also a positive initiative for the taxi trade. We want to make it easier for people to enjoy all that the city offers at night and then to get home safely."
Hertfordshire Police requested that the council provide this additional taxi rank to help people return home from this busy location on weekend nights.
