Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted on a bus travelling through St Albans.

Between 3.30pm and 3.58pm on Thursday, November 28 an 18-year-old woman was travelling on the 601 Uno bus in Hatfield Road.

She was standing on the lower deck when a man approached her and assaulted her. The woman got off the bus in St Albans City Centre, as did the man who then walked away in the direction of the Blacksmiths Arms Public House.

The criminal is described as a white man, aged between 16 and 19-years-old, of slim build and between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 8ins tall. He had light brown, short spiked hair. He was wearing a navy coloured t-shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms.

It is believed the man boarded the bus at the bus stop outside of Morrison’s in Hatfield Road.

Detective Constable Paul Cullinan is investigating and said: “The victim has understandably been left shaken by this incident and we are doing everything we can to trace the identity of the offender.

“This happened at a time when the bus would have had other people on board. I would appeal to anyone who may have seen this man, know of his identity or witnessed the assault, to contact me as soon as possible.

“If anyone believes they saw the man board or exit the bus they should contact me as they may have vital information that could assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Cullinan via Herts Police non-emergency number 101 citing crime reference number F1/13/3790. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
