Pupils at a St Albans school took time out of their Christmas celebrations and braved the rain and fog to plant fruit trees with help from volunteers from Highfield Park.
Roger Thomas, chair of Governors at Wheatfields Infants’ and Nursery School, successfully applied for a grant from the Tree Council, who provided 10 fruit trees as part of the environmental and forest school development at the school.
Jane Whitehurst, Headteacher at the Downes Road school, said “The children were delighted to have the experience of planting the trees, guided by the experts.
“They are looking forward to seeing the trees blossom next year and then hopefully enjoy the fruit they produce.”
