Soup kitchen 'still in good spirits' despite low turnout

St Albans & Harpenden Review: Soup kitchen 'still in good spirits' despite low turnout Soup kitchen 'still in good spirits' despite low turnout

Organisers of a soup kitchen for the needy which took place on Sunday in St Albans are “still in good spirits” despite a low turnout.

Members from New Testament Church of God, based in Fleetville Community Centre, aimed to serve up hot soup, food and drink on Saturday to reach out to needy members of the community near Christmas time.

However Pearl Roper, group member, said downpours of rain meant a low turnout.

She said: “We did have people come in to donate clothes, but because of the weather it was a poor turnout.

“They might not have been able to get transportation because we are not in the city centre. The tables were all laid out and the food was lovely- it didn’t go to waste.

“It is a bit disappointing but we are still in good spirits and will definitely aim to do the same thing next year.”
