It was a fantastic party for Harpenden businessman Tulsi Parmar, who celebrated his 65th birthday, the birth of his first grandchild and 40 years of business at AV82 Home Entertainment in the High Street.

Harpenden resident Florence Lovell let us in to the secret of living to 100-years-old: Ballroom dancing and keeping active. Mrs Lovell enjoyed a slice of cake and glass of prosecco at a party thrown by her friends and family at Homedell House care home to mark the occasion.

The people of St Albans were given a ray of hope by Hertfordshire County Council, to delay its decision on whether or not to sell the land for a rail freight terminal in Park Street after a county council cabinet meeting.

The St Albans branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) joined forces with residents against plans to sell the hall it operates from. Since RBL headquarters announced the plans to sell Mitchell Hall in Verulam Road, residents and RBL members has formed an action group to preserve the community facility.

Meanwhile St Albans doctor Mary Groves, the driving force behind Grove House Hospice collected her MBE.

She said: “I am very honoured. I am quite humbled.”
