Poundland closes its doors

A bargain store in St Albans has closed.

Poundland in the Maltings closed its doors yesterday. The stores spokesman said it was a temporary shop not meant to be open in the New Year.

The nearest Poundland store is in Hemel Hempstead.

fight rates says...

It is strange that a company would invest in what looks to me like an expensive shop refit & then close within a few months. Especially as they are expanding the company & opening new stores nationally. It must be that the landlord is asking too much rent, together with the highest business rates in the world that have gone up for the last 22 years in a row. Landlords, the Government & the council have to reduce rent, rates & parking charges or shops will leave this city.
