A Harpenden sports centre is hosting a charity spinathon this weekend.

On Saturday, January 4 Harpenden Sports Centre, in Leyton Road, will hold the Spinathon from 9am to 3pm with all proceeds going towards Macmillan Cancer Support.

The spinathon is being held in support of a member of staff at the leisure centre who is currently unwell.

Residents are being encouraged to pop along to any of the 45-minute sessions throughout the day to spin for as long as they can in the name of charity.

Mike Minerve, Health & Fitness Manager at Harpenden Sports Centre, said: "As Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity close to our hearts here at Harpenden we’re extremely keen to really make a difference.

"We’re looking forward to seeing the spinners have a really fun day fundraising, and hope members at the centre and members of the local community will offer their support to. One of our spinning instructors Sarah Leggate, will be heading the day, with resident personal trainer Colin Fisher also teaching throughout the day with more to be confirmed."

The centre is asking for a minimum donation of £5 per bike, per session and all users of the event will receive a three-day pass, which can be used for three consecutive days, for the facility.
