A cyclist has died after being hit by a car in St Albans yesterday evening.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 57-year-old man from Redbourn died after a crash involving a silver VW Golf, which took place in Redbourn Road at around 6.25pm.

Both were travelling towards Redbourn and the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

PC Dave Clarke from the Collision Investigation Unit is investigating and said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened to contact police. I am also keen to hear from anyone who saw the cyclist travelling along Redbourn Road between 5.30pm and 6.30pm to contact police."

Anyone with information should contact PC Clarke at Hitchin Police Station via the Herts police non-emergency number 101 quoting ISR 463 of January 9.
