It was a star lit moment for St Albans woman Philomena Lee, who is the inspiration behind adoption drama and comedy Philomena, on Sunday night when she spoke at the Golden Globe awards in Los Angeles.

Appearing alongside comedic actor Steve Coogan, Philomena Lee took to the stage at the star studded Beverley Hilton Hotel ceremony.

The film, based on the 80-year-old Irish woman, was nominated for best actress (her character played by Dame Judi Dench), best drama and best screenplay.

Met with a standing ovation and an eruption of applause, Philomena said: "Thank you. The film isn’t just about me. It is the shared story of the women who have yet to see the justice they deserve."

Dame Judie Dench also received a BAFTA nomination last week, for her role in the film, which tells the real life story of a woman’s 50-year long search for her son after she was forced to give him up for adoption.
