Imaginative mosaics designed and made by St Albans school pupils have been unveiled at the city’s Abbey Station.

On Friday, January 17, seven pieces of art work on the theme of historical St Albans, designed by Year 5 students from St Peter’s School and local mosaic artist Jane Visick, went on show at St Albans Abbey Station. This was in partnership with Groundwork Hertfordshire, the green community charity, and funded by the Community Rail Partnership (CRP).

Class teacher Mr Walter, said: "It has been fantastic for the children to be able to give something to the community, especially something with such longevity. In years to come, they’ll be able to say "I did that".

"The mosaics definitely liven the place up and add colour and excitement to the station. The children loved working on them and were really excited to come and see them being unveiled. It’s been a real "wow" moment."

Over two days of workshops, the children created their own artistic designs and used tiles to make one of the mosaics - with a bit of help from Ms Visick. Groundwork then installed the new weather proof mosaics at the station.

Ms Visick added: "I’ve really enjoyed this project. The children were delightful to work with and were very talented. My favourite part was watching them create the designs - they were so focussed and productive. It was hard to decide which of their designs to use so I ended up incorporating 10 designs into the seven mosaics."
