Residents are being asked to contribute their ideas on how St Albans first Christmas Market can be enhanced, following its launch last year.

Plans are being put together by St Albans District Council to develop the German-inspired Christmas Market which launched in November.

The 24-day event attracted 45,000 visitors into the city and a survey with visitors, exhibitors and local retailers is currently underway.

These findings will be used to improve the festive market and so far 50 per cent of exhibitors, who have returned their questionnaires, said they are interested in returning to the city.

My family loved it. We could use a few more traditional german food and gluhwein booths. That would be great!

It was lovely but lacked character . Maybe some better lighting, some festive music and setting up more stalls around the abbey.

It was a great start & we hope it continues. More stalls around the outside of the cathedral would be great.

The Bratwurst, Mulled Wine, Feuerzangenbowl and other food at the Christmas market were excellent. The theatre of making the Feuerzangenbowl was well worth seeing and the drink was extremely nice. The stalls in the walled garden were good, but a lot of the prices were a bit high.

The stark new chalets need a bit of seasoning to give the market a more relaxing feel. And the market needs to be open to say 7pm every night.

The market was very quiet during the week. I do hope the German sellers come back as it must have been hard for them to make any money on week days. I visited the market three times and would have liked to have visited more. The market was good and I hope it does return.
