A team of six young entrepreneurs are hosting a fitness fun day at Westminster Lodge this weekend to raise money for the St Albans Volunteer Centre.

On Sunday, January 26 from 1pm to 5pm team EVOLVE, from St Albans Girls’ School, who were selected to take on the Dragon’s Apprentice Challenge, will turn £100 into £1,000 for their local cause.

With only two weeks left to reach their target, the group has teamed up with Everyone Active at Westminster Lodge and fitness clothing range Branded Ego for their third event.

The event entitled CAN YOU MOVE will include a fitness fashion show and group exercise classes including a dance workshop with Chris and Wes, winners of the hit TV show Got to Dance.

Charlotte Thompson, team leader for EVOLVE said: "The challenge has been a brilliant experience and we’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile, local cause.

"We are so excited for the event and have been overwhelmed by the support we’ve had from local instructors and the team at Westminster Lodge. ‘CAN YOU MOVE’ will definitely be our biggest and best event yet."

Year 12 students Charlotte Thompson, Lucy Hayes, Megan Wancio, Olivia Coverley, Tara Graham and Sumaiyah Jamil have raised just over £1,000 since October last year through a charity bake-off and stalls at the St Albans Christmas Market.

Steve Cox, contract manager at the centre, said: "The girls have been working incredibly hard and it’s set to be a fantastic event.

"We were more than happy to offer our facilities free of charge and hope the local community will get behind Team EVOLVE, helping them raise much needed funds for the St Albans Volunteer Centre."

Attendees will also have the opportunity to win a month’s free membership at Everyone Active, as well as Branded Ego clothing and other raffle prizes. Customers can also try their hand at a variety of energising exercise classes such as Burlesque Fitness, Armageddon Fitness, Bokwa Move & Tone and a jump rope class called Skiptrix.

Classes can be booked at the Westminster Lodge reception or by calling 01727 736 080.

The dance workshop by Chris and Wes will cost just £3 per person and a small donation is being asked for all other activities on the day.
