A charity that visits older people at home is looking for volunteers.

According to Age UK, half of all people aged 75 and over in the UK live alone, and one in 10 people aged 65 or over say they often feel lonely - which is just over a million people.

Age UK Hertfordshire’s visiting scheme volunteers aim to reduce this figure.

They are looking for volunteers aged 18 and over, who will receive an induction and support from a co-ordinator and relevant training for the volunteer role.

For more information, call: 01707 386060 or email volunteering@ageukherts.org.uk.

Phil Cox (UKIP) says...

Fantastic idea, I hope people will sign up for it.

This could make such a difference to the lives of those who are lucky enough to receive this support. Nobody wants to be old or lonely. We must do more for our older citizens to help overcome this problem.
