Passengers got the opportunity to view a model and video of the new Thameslink train in St Albans city station on Wednesday.

A model of the new state-of-the-art electric Class 700 train, which aims to offer more frequent services to the city, was unveiled at St Albans Station where visitors were given the opportunity to ask First Capital Connect (FCC) staff questions.

The trains will run on the line in 2016 and services will be increased from 18 trains to 24 trains during the three-hour morning peak from 2018.

In the busiest hour of the morning, Thameslink north services that run fast between St Albans and London will be formed of 12 carriages, delivering approximately 30 per cent more seats.

David Statham, FCC managing director, said: "Our services are some of the most crowded in Britain and this new fleet will give us more trains, more carriages and more capacity which our passengers desperately need.

"We want our passengers to see what they will be travelling in and hear how the Thameslink Programme is going to transform their journeys."

There will also be 50 per cent more carriages providing approximately 30 per cent more seats and on the stopping services there will be over 50 per cent more carriages and 24 instead of today’s 17.

This is part of the Government-sponsored £6.5bn Thameslink Programme.
