A St Albans resident has revisited the moment a large tree came crashing down just yards away from his house.

Mohammad Tahir said the tree toppled over in High Oaks at approximately 11pm on Friday night after huge winds set in across the city.

Mr Tahir, who has lived in St Albans for three years, said: "There was a big gust of wind and then I looked out the window and saw this large tree toppling over just two or three yards away from my drive.

"It was really scary. It is a really big tree, probably around 20-years-old and 20 metres high."

Mr Tahir is a car dealer and said he usually parks his car under the tree, while parking his stock on the drive.

He said: "I normally have three or four cars parked on my drive and then I park my car under the tree. "I am extremely lucky because I didn’t have any stock that day. It is such a relief."

Ringway, contractors on behalf of Hertfordshire County council, removed the tree from blocking Mr Tahir’s driveway on Saturday morning.
