A group from St Albans has raised over £1,000 for charity after completing 26 challenges in one hour.

Wick Wood Beavers from the 18th St Albans Scout Group took on The Cheeky Monkey Marathon Challenge earlier this month, which involves choosing a challenge based around the number 26 - for the number of miles run in a marathon.

The group chose to fundraise for the charity Children with Cancer, a charity that works to give children a better chance in their fight against all types of cancer.

Wick Wood leader Stuart Smart found out about Children with Cancer and said: "With only an hour to get through their challenges, the evening didn’t get off to the greatest start as the leaders struggled to arrive through the stormy weather and reached the hut with only a minute or two to spare before the challenges started.

"Luckily, the Beavers were geared up and ready to go and immediately got stuck into searching for 26 words in a wordsearch, running 26 laps of the hall or trying to name something for every letter of the alphabet. Even the leaders and young leaders took on a challenge each to help raise as much money as possible."

A hut was set up with four rooms each containing different types of challenges - physical, mental, mystery and skill.

The Beavers moved from room to room completing challenges and collecting gold stars for completing the challenges. Other challenges included scoring 26 goals against a leader, moving 26 grapes using chopsticks and making sure a list of sums all equalled the number 26.

Dean Stinton, head of direct marketing at Children with Cancer said: "A huge thank you to Wick Wood Beavers for their hard work, commitment and dedication. Without the support of schools, guides and scout groups we could not continue our vital work to help save young lives. Every participating child will receive a fantastically fun Cheeky Monkey souvenir as a thank you for their efforts."
