Verulamium Museum in St Albans to open its doors to Jane Eyre exhibition
Verulamium Museum will open its doors to tell visitors about the lives of writer Charlotte Brontë and the heroine of her novel, Jane Eyre, through the clothes they wore.
On Sunday, March 2, costume historian Gillian Stapleton will recreate Jane Eyre’s charity-school uniform, her ‘best’ silver grey gown and her ill-fated wedding dress. She will link Jane’s life as a governess with that of Charlotte Brontë who also took on this role in order to make a living.
St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust funded talk 'Jane Eyre - the well dressed governess' starts at 3pm and finishes at 4.30pm. Tickets are available from Verulamium Museum and cost £10 each (£9 each for Museum Friends).
