Residents are being invited to share their views on housing needs in St Albans for the next three years.

St Albans District Council has drawn up a draft housing strategy, which sets out the council’s priorities for housing provision for the next three years.

The priorities include making best use of existing stock in all tenures, increasing the supply of affordable homes and meeting the needs of older people and other vulnerable groups.

The draft also sets out how the council plans to meet challenges that lay ahead, including the high cost of private rented accommodation and home ownership in the district.

Councillor Brian Ellis, portfolio holder for housing t the council, said: "The council’s vision is to provide a range of quality homes working alongside various partners, including housing associations.

"We are looking at ways to make the most of our land and housing stock. As part of this strategy, we are redeveloping our sheltered housing to bring it up to modern standards. We are also redeveloping under-utilised garage sites to provide 56 units of affordable housing over the next three years."
