Pancake racers flipped their way along St Peter’s Street this afternoon to mark Shrove Tuesday.
It was a pan-tastic effort as the popular event drew hundreds of spectators and a number of teams of local business, charities and members of St Albans District Council, who put their flipping skills to the test.
This year’s annual event saw a traditional running race and a Flippin' Walkers race, sponsored by McDougalls and organised by the district council.
Following a series of competitive heats the Flippin’ Walkers final was won by Atlas Translations, who beat off stiff competition from the Hare and Hounds into second place, third was the team from The Grove House.
Staff members from the translation company based in Upper Dagnell Street included Sian Owen, Sara Brescini, Samuel Sanchez Gonzalez and Gabriela Hojnosova.
Sian, office manager said: "It was great fun, but a big shock to win.
"We took part in the running race last year, so thought we would have a better chance in the walking race.
"It was great to see lots of people and local businesses and Atlas staff cheering us on."
The traditional running race was won by a team from St Albans Sports and Health Development Team, Everyone Active team was named runner up and Fitness First took third place.
