Schoolchildren drew inspiration from two acclaimed authors on Thursday to celebrate World Book Day.

Bowmansgreen School pupils were thrilled to meet popular children’s author Jeremy Strong, who had all them in stitches as he read to them.

As well has reading his books packed full of jokes, Jeremy also told the children that the secret behind planning and writing a book was "a fridge full of food."

Graine Milner, resources manager at the Telford Road school, said: "He told the children to tell their teachers that they must have a fridge full of food to keep them going when they are writing.

"They thought this was great- they were all in stitches."

Youngsters were also treated to a visit from Australian author and artist Leigh Hobbs, who showed the children how to draw characters from his books, including Old Tom and Horrible Harriet.

Ms Milner added: "The children’s sketches were lovely. They were very pleased with themselves.

"The visits were a huge success and the children went home feeling quite inspired by both authors to create their own stories.

"We are very lucky."
