For one day only St Albans played host to Irish Dancers and live music during the city’s first St Patricks Day Festival.

Over the weekend approximately 1,000 people walked through the doors of the White Swan, a traditional Irish pub in Upper Dagnall Street.

Visitors packed in to the pub and partied in Christopher Place during the festival, which hosted performances by Irish Dancers, aged between four and 16, and live music from various musicians including John Devine.

John McGuinness, pub landlord and organiser, said it was a tremendous day.

He said: "We must have had around 1,000 through the pub doors. The weather was a blessing and it was a fantastic weekend. The six month build up to this event all came together extremely well.

"Everybody had a great time.

"It was a community day- we didn’t want it to just be an Irish day, we wanted it to be for everybody and that is just what it was.

"I am looking forward to organising a bigger and better one next year."

The Mayor of St Albans also joined in on the celebrations, formally opening the festivities.

Mr McGuiness said: "The highlight of my day was meeting the Mayor. It was the first time I had met her and I was amazed at how friendly she was.

"She was welcoming and stayed for a long time, chatting to everybody."

The landlord also paid tribute to his members of staff.

He said: "They were incredible and chirpy- everybody loves them. They worked hard and put a great deal of effort in to making it a tremendous day.

"I would also like to thank Catherine Morris, who was kind enough to let us use Christopher Place, where we partied."
