A new housing plan for St Albans, to meet the demand for affordable housing and vulnerable residents, has been drawn up.

The three year housing strategy has been introduced by St Albans District Council’s and outlines priorities including:

• making best use of existing stock in all tenures, including improving energy efficiency in homes and reducing fuel poverty;
• increasing the supply of affordable homes; and
• meeting the needs of people who require support.

The strategy has been put together following a consultation event with stakeholders in September. Discussions have also been held at the Tenants’ Forum and Older People’s Forum. Members of the Youth Council were also consulted on its contents.

It also sets out how the council is planning to meet various issues facing residents, which include the impact of welfare reform, the high costs of home ownership and accommodation in the private rented sector, and demand for affordable housing.
