Harpenden’s David Clarke will add some sparkle to Sports Relief tonight when he swaps his football kit for sequins during a Strictly Come Dancing one off special.
The father-of-two joins wheelchair racer and double Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft, former World Champion javelin thrower Nathan Stephens and sitting volleyball player Martine Wright.
David, is Britain’s most capped blind footballer and lit the Paralympic cauldron two years ago at the London 2012 Paralympics opening ceremony.
Dancing to ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry, the Paralympians and their professional dance partners will take on a group dance challenge in a bid to impress the judges – Darcey Bussell, Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and 10-time Paralympic Gold medallist Lee Pearson.
Strictly host, Tess Daly, will reveal the judge’s favourite and present the winner with the Sport Relief glitter ball trophy.
The Bewdley Close resident said: "The opportunity to take part in the Strictly Come Dancing Sport Relief special came out of the blue for me and I kind of thought why not.
“I called my wife and said I've been asked to do a Strictly special and I'd actually quite like to do it - she laughed. I thought why not, Sport Relief is a fantastic cause; it's an absolute privilege to be able to do something for it and also learn a skill at the same time."
