A new book reuse scheme is now available at most of the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across Hertfordshire.

Following a successful three month trial, where over 17 tonnes of books were collected for reuse at six HWRCs, the reuse scheme has been rolled out to a further 10 centres in Hertfordshire.

Books in good condition are collected in designated containers and are then sorted for re-sale by a specialist book reuse company.

Terry Douris, cabinet member for waste management at Hertfordshire County Council, said: "We want to encourage Hertfordshire residents to recycle as much as possible and this new innovation means that people can dispose of their old books in the most environmentally friendly way.

"These new book collection points provide a great opportunity for books to be enjoyed by somebody else after you have finished with them."
