A St Albans street was plunged in to darkness yesterday, due to a power cut.

UK Power Networks was alerted to a power cut in St Peter’s Street just before 7am yesterday. Engineers worked through the day and night to fix the fault on an underground cable.

Six customers had their electricity restored at midnight and the final two had their electricity back on by 1.40pm today.

Jenny Chapman, spokesman from UK Power Network, said: "We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused by this incident."
