A drama student from St Albans, is one of just 42 students chosen to perform on stage at the world-famous Shakespeare’s Globe in London as part of the Sam Wanamaker Festival.

Edward Firth, a third year student at Mountview, will join protégés from the UK’s top drama schools for an intensive weekend of professional training, before a final performance on the Globe stage at 4pm on Sunday, April 6.

Edward and fellow student Stephanie Brooks will represent their drama school with a scene from The Roaring Girl by Thomas Middleton and Thomas Dekker.

The performance is the culmination of the weekend’s workshops and masterclasses, aimed at helping the students to explore their craft.

Edward said: "I have soaked up the atmosphere at the Globe for many years as a 'punter' but am over the moon I get to perform on the famous stage."

It is big opportunity for the students to showcase their talent, as the festival is a springboard for aspiring actors.

Previous participants have gone on to stardom, including Naeem Hayat, a participant from 2013 who is about to embark on the Globe Theatre’s worldwide tour of Hamlet, starring in the title role.

Other past participants include BAFTA-nominated Andrew Garfield from The Social Network and The Amazing Spiderman, David Oakes who has recently starred in TV dramas The Borgias, and The White Queen and Michelle Dockery, best known as Lady Mary Crawley from Downton Abbey.
