Hundreds turned out to enjoy a community day at a Fleetville church on Saturday.

St Paul’s Church in Blandford Road hosted the third annual Community Day where keen bakers turned out to participate in the popular Fleetville Bake Off competition.

The Mayor of St Albans, Annie Brewster, judged the competition, where nine children entered imaginative cakes in the under-16-years category and the winner was six-year-old Luke Comiskey with his Helter Skelter cake. The winner of the over-16-years category was Annette Aggett with her Easter-themed cake.

The city’s mayor said: "I am so delighted to be a part of this wonderful event with such a breadth of people from our community having fun together. Judging the bake off was a mammoth challenge. I think almost every imaginable type of cake was produced and the youngest baker was only three years old.

"Congratulations to all the competitors and special thanks must go to St Paul’s Church for their generosity in making this day so enjoyable for local people."

Canon Tony Hurle, Vicar of St Paul’s Church, continued: "We are very grateful to the mayor for making time in her busy schedule to support our community day. We wanted to welcome people from our local community and give them an enjoyable day."

Live music accompanied a host of activities throughout the day, including an inflatable bungee run, table football, Japanese kimono dressing and origami. For creative residents there was also a flower arranging demonstration, community bunting-making sessions and artworks by local artists.
