A St Albans sports centre, destroyed in a devastating fire in 2011, is set to re-open next month complete with brand new tennis, judo and squash facilities.
The sports centre is the final building to be completed at Batchwood following the fire more than two years ago, which destroyed tennis, golf and bowls facilities.
St Albans District Council has already rebuilt new golf and bowls pavilions and re-laid the bowls green which were also destroyed in the fire.
Funding has been provided through a combination of grants from the Lawn Tennis Association and Sport England, insurance funds and the Council’s Leisure Capital Budget.
The facility will continue to provide tennis coaching for players of all levels, from beginners to the elite. There are six indoor tennis courts and a range of other sports and fitness facilities. These include, refurbished squash courts, a 48-station gym, a strength and conditioning suite and a judo dojo training facility.
