Young people in Sandridge will soon have a place to sit, talk and socialise under cover when a mobile youth shelter is moved to the village.

St Albans District Council is trialling a number of community spaces around the district after working with the parish council and residents to agree the exact location for a mobile shelter.

A mobile shelter has just completed an eight month spell in Wheathampstead where it was located next to the East Lane car park. It proved to be so popular with young people in the village that Wheathampstead Parish Council has now installed a permanent shelter.

Richard Shwe, head of community services at the council, said: "Young people have few places to go to socialise under cover in an informal setting. Youth shelters provide them with a place to do this. We are testing out a number of locations around the district that may be suitable for youth shelters. The next location is Sandridge. While the trial is taking place, we will be monitoring usage and obtaining feedback from residents to determine whether a permanent shelter is appropriate."
