Ex-county swimmer Brenda Carter and her fellow ‘Team Carter’ successfully completed their 21.5 mile swimathon at a St Albans school in aid of Breakthrough Breast cancer UK and Prostate Cancer UK.

The team swam a total of 1,526 lengths between them in an incredible time of 4.5 hours and raised over £2,000 for their charities during the swimathon at Marlborough School.

The day was fantastic with huge support from family and friends as well as members of Ms Carter’s Make a Splash swim school.

Ms Carter started up her own Swim School twelve years ago after battling breast cancer herself.
As a cancer survivor, she realised that life is just too short not to fulfil your passion and so after a long wait, Brenda’s Swim School was born.

Four of Ms Carter’s pupil’s families joined on the day completing their own challenges including the Devereux family swimming the highest point of Everest, and brothers Robert and Daniel Cheek swimming the length of HMS Belfast and the route around London Zoo;  all to contribute to the donations.

The atmosphere on the day was almost tangible and the feelings of excitement, anticipation at the start and elation at the completion of their goal really reflected the passion that the team felt in raising awareness for their chosen charities.

Halfway through their challenge, Nikki, 23 of Team Carter breathed: "I’ve got to get in again, I’ve already done 172 lengths but it’s all for an incredible cause".

On completion of their feat, Ms Carter said: "I am so grateful to my team and everyone who supported us in coming by today and giving such generous donations through our just giving sites".

The team would like to thank Marlborough school for loaning them use of the pool and for making the event possible.
