More than 1,000 children and adults took part in the Easter Pilgrimage to St Albans Abbey on Monday, some travelling more than 40 miles.

The celebration involved churches in the St Albans diocese, which includes Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and parts of the London borough of Barnet.

Among those involved was a group from Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, who had walked furthest to the Abbey and a group from Barnet celebrated their 30th pilgrimage, having started in their teens in a youth group in Chipping Barnet.

The theme of this year’s Easter Monday Pilgrimage was the sending out of the 70 disciples.

The 70 were sent out in pairs, for strength and encouragement, and went ahead of Jesus to every place.
