Further work will be done to improve war memorials in St Albans.
First World War names on the grade ll listed war memorial in St Peter’s Street will be restored and the paved area surroundings will also be extended after a request from the Royal British Legion.
This is to allow for the safe and proper raising of the standard at the annual November Remembrance Day commemoration.
This may also accommodate a commemorative stone in memory of Private Edward Warner, recipient of the Victoria Cross, who was born in St Albans.
Memorial plaques in High Street and Verulam Road will also be cleaned and re-pointed.
Last year St Albans District Council began the process of renovating war memorials in the city.
At the St Peter’s Street memorial, names of members of the armed forces who died in World War II were re-engraved on the stone panels around the base.
Cleaning and re-pointing work was also done. Memorial plaques in Holywell Hill and Ridgmont Road were also renovated.
