A Girlguiding group from Radlett recently held its annual spring activity day as part of a fundraising effort to visit Switzerland next year.

Girlguiding Radlett held the activity day for its Rainbows, Brownies and Guides on Saturday, April 26.

The event was planned and organised by District Leader Nicola Day and a team of Guide leaders as part of a fundraising effort to enable a group of Guides and Rangers to visit World Girlguiding’s "Our Chalet" in Switzerland for a week during 2015.

The activity day formed part of an ongoing environmental project by Girlguiding Radlett to regenerate the woodland grounds surrounding the Guide Hut in Scrubbits Park Road.

The project started in Autumn 2013 after several mature trees were lost due to disease.

David Clout at the club said: "The girls attending the event enjoyed a number of special activities including planting ferns and other woodland plants.

"They were also able to see Will Lee from Chainsaw-Carvings in action creating some fabulous wood sculptures from tree stumps.

District Commissioner, Catherine Bilsborough said: "We are enormously grateful to everyone who has been involved in this project.

"The girls aged 5 to 17 have had so much fun being part of such an inspirational scheme to regenerate our grounds.  This work will not only benefit our local wildlife but also provide the perfect outdoor area for Guiding activities.

"We very much look forward to seeing the grounds establish and the plants and bulbs mature in the coming years.  We have already enjoyed the benefits of the newly planted daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells.  Everyone who has worked on this scheme should be extremely proud of what has been achieved."
