Work in English Literature took an international turn when St Albans School pupils discussed a collection of short stories from around the world with pupils from a school in Mumbai, India.

The group of Year 10 students at the school in Abbey Gateway shared a seminar session with pupils in Mumbai, as they both study the Cambridge International Examinations’ IGCSE course.

The pupils in Mumbai clarified points about the setting and culture of Narayan’s story A Horse and Two Goats, with its portrayal of village life, while St Albans School students commented on the English sense of class in Hardy’s story The Son’s Veto.

Mark Pedroz, English teacher, said: "It’s a great opportunity to make these links through an international syllabus. The shared session with Mumbai enabled students to articulate their ideas and opened new insights. I hope it will be the first of a number of such connections with other schools."
